ASSIUT SHOW OPENS IN BERKELEY!
I’m so pleased that an exhibition of assiut fabrics is taking place at the Lacis Museum in Berkeley, CA They’ve put up a GREAT slide-show of the assiut pieces in their show - so even if you cannot make it to see it in person - check out this collection of amazing images.

Vintage Suhaila performing in an assortment of costumes including a super-cute assiut ensemble.
Vintage 80’s assiut dress with really corroded coins. This is my “before” performance wearing this dress “as is” - my plan is to remove the coins, split the sides and adjust the sleeves. I had a blast performing to a cut selected by the show host Adriana at Morocco’s in Mountain View, CA.
I find this list inspirational - and though I might reorder a few things, make some refinements and adjustments for my own peculiar needs, I think it is practically perfect!
Liquid Silver - Videos that showcase the movement of vintage assiut/assuit
Check out this blog post to see how vintage assiut, also known as liquid silver, shimmers and moves.

Kathryn Stanley as Salome (1926, photo by Edwin Hesser)
“Thou rejectedest me. Thou didst speak evil words against me. Thou didst bear thyself toward me as to a harlot, to me, Salome, daughter of Herodias, Princess of Judaea!
Well, I still live, but thou art dead, and thy head belongs to me.”
-Oscar Wilde, Salome
December Performance at Morocco’s in Mountain View, CA. Hot Moroccan Nights weekly dance party hosted by the luscious dancer Adriana. I’m wearing a vintage assiut dress, bought on serious sale at an event and that I’m in the process of reworking. This is the “before” video… The complete transformation will be feature in my upcoming book on the history, lore and technique of working with assiut/assuit/tulle bi telli. Visit my website and subscribe to my newsletter to get informed when the book is finished.
